Popular B&H Publishing Group author Jen Hatmaker (7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess) appeared on NBC’s TODAY show June 10 after one of her comedic family-related blog posts went viral.

The candid and somewhat tongue-in-cheek “Worst End of School Year Mom Ever” post resonated with weary parents like Jen who are much less enthusiastic about a child’s school lunches, homework assignments, and elaborate classroom projects as the summer break nears.

TODAY reported, “An army of moms has now applauded, shared on social media and weighed in on her hilarious column” that has received 350,000 shares on Facebook, 4,000 comments on Hatmaker’s blog, and a steady stream of re-tweets on Twitter.

Among the comments from moms, dads, and teachers: I laughed so hard I cried while reading this; This may be the best blog I've ever read; I thought I was the only mom that felt like this!

Blog Post: Blackaby sons bring Experiencing God home

More than 20 years after its introduction to the world, Experiencing God has come home.

Experiencing God at Home, released in May by B&H Publishing Group, is the latest resource in the extensive line of Experiencing God resources published by LifeWay Christian Resources.

Richard and Tom Blackaby, sons of Henry Blackaby, wrote Experiencing God at Home to help parents see where God is at work in their homes and give them the means to implement the principles of Experiencing God into their family lives.

The book gives insights on Christian parenting and creating a home conducive to developing God-centered children. Ultimately, the authors’ design for Experiencing God at Home is to strengthen families, which in affect leads to stronger churches.

Through establishing the biblical case for the idea of experiencing God at home, the Blackabys show how the clear foundation for God’s work in nations and churches around the world is rooted in His work in families.

“Experiencing God at Home addresses the important issue of how we as parents help our children to experience God as they are growing up in our home,” said Richard Blackaby.

According to Richard, searching the Scriptures for a clear-cut manual for how to be a good parent can be difficult. An easier task is finding example upon example of bad parenting and wicked children.

“Biblically, it is difficult to raise godly children,” Richard writes. “Of course, we know the Bible upholds a high view of godly, and successful, parenting. But what is unsettling is how few good examples there are of it. If Scripture expects godly parenting, then you would assume the Bible’s pages would be brimming with positive examples. But they are not.”

According to Tom Blackaby, “The content [of Experiencing God at Home] models an approach for parents wanting to disciple their kids. It also will help parents see their children from God’s perspective. God gave our kids their personality traits for a reason. Stubborn kids can grow into firm, solid adults. Parents can get tools to help equip their kids to stand strong spiritually.”

Suggestions for parents in the book are based directly on the seven realities Henry Blackaby used in the original Experiencing God: seeing God at work, being loved by God, getting involved with God’s work, listening for God’s direction, facing the challenge of obeying God, making adjustments in your life and knowing God better by experience. Each chapter relates to one of the realities.

The original Experiencing God book and Bible study co-authored by Henry Blackaby and Claude King has sold more than 7 million copies and has been translated into 47 languages.

Richard Blackaby is president of Blackaby Ministries International and lives in Greenville, S.C. He travels internationally speaking on spiritual leadership in the home, church and marketplace. Richard has written or co-authored more than 30 books. He and his wife, Lisa, have three grown children.

Best-selling author Vicki Courtney, whose new book Ever After: Life Lessons Learned in My Castle of Chaos releases June 1, was featured this week in a Baptist Press story about teens and texting. BP reported:

As early as 2009, Vicki Courtney, an author and speaker who addresses teen issues -- particularly among girls -- was warning of the need for parents to have some control over their teens' texting habits.

"While most of us don't have teens who are logging 35,000 text messages a month (the average is 1742/month among teens 13-17), we would still be wise to have some boundaries in place to ensure that our tweens and teens don't become so focused on texting that they miss out on life," Courtney wrote on her blog.

NASHVILLE, Tenn., 5/09/2013 – B&H Publishing Group president Selma Wilson has named Amanda Sloan acting vice president of Marketing. Mary Katharine Hunt, who previously held the position, will join Justice and Mercy International as executive director of Operations on June 1.

Sloan came to B&H as marketing manager of Trade Books in 2010 and has helped lead promotion efforts on New York Times best sellers The Vow (Kim and Krickitt Carpenter), The Resolution for Men (Stephen and Alex Kendrick), The Resolution for Women (Priscilla Shirer), and Reshaping It All (Candace Cameron Bure). Blog Post: B&H Sees Impact of Operation Christmas Child

When B&H Publishing Group president Selma Wilson and trade book publisher Jennifer Lyell visited Peru earlier this year with the Operation Christmas Child ministry to distribute gift-filled shoeboxes to needy kids, it was a life-changing experience they were eager to share with their entire team.

They joined the mission trip in relation to B&H’s upcoming release Operation Christmas Child: A Story of Simple Gifts by Franklin Graham and Donna Lee Toney (October 1, 2013). The book is a memory- and photo-filled twentieth anniversary celebration of the ministry that has inspired everyday people to provide more than 100 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in 130 countries.

At a special B&H division gathering last week, Wilson and Lyell shared their experience, as did guest speaker Livia Satterfield, an orphan whose life was forever changed by Operation Christmas Child.

Growing up in a Romanian orphanage where living conditions were very poor, Livia’s greatest wish was a modest one: to have her own set of hair clips. In time she received a shoebox from Operation Christmas Child that contained not only hair clips but also toys, personal hygiene items, and a two-part friendship heart necklace—one heart for Livia to wear and another for her to give away.

Livia gave the second heart to the woman who delivered the box to her, a woman who would eventually return to Romania to adopt her.

“It was no coincidence those hair clips were on the top of the items in the box,” Wilson told employees. “God was there when that shoebox was packed for that little girl. God changes lives with something that simple.”

B&H employees were also given the opportunity to join together in ministry with Operation Christmas Child, packing 50 shoeboxes to send worldwide, filled not only with soccer balls, crayons, and tooth brushes, but also with prayers.

Proceeds from the book Operation Christmas Child will go to support the ministry it seeks to celebrate and honor.
